Ordnance Survey maps grid reference – TF892445
To reduce our carbon footprint we would ask runners to share car journeys if possible
There will be marshals in the car park area who will direct you to the registration and start areas.
Registration
Registration will be in the Lookout (cafe) – this is the round building at the beach end of Lady Anne’s Drive. This will be clearly signposted from the car park
You will be allocated your race number at Registration
Please bring your own safety pins
If you require a parking extension permit please ask at Registration.
Registration will open at 9 a.m.
Registration will close at 9.40 a.m. promptly – this will give runners time to pick up their race number, return to their car with their extension permit and get to the start of the race for the race briefing at 9.55 a.m. However, we recommend getting to registration earlier to avoid any last minute problems (and toilet queues).
Toilets
There are toilets in the registration area at the Lookout. Please note these are limited and were very popular last year so we recommend you arrive early to get in the queue.
Race briefing
There will be a mandatory race briefing at the start area on the beach at 9.55 a.m. This will provide any updates from the information provided here. We will keep this as short as possible.
The start
The race will start at 10 a.m.
The race start will be clearly signposted from the registration area and the car park
The start is a five-minute walk from the registration area / car park
The start and finish are in the same place.
Baggage
Weather permitting, we will have a gazebo near the start / finish line for runners to leave warm clothes
This will not be supervised and runners leaving property here will do so at their own risk.
We highly recommend that valuables are not left here.
The route
There is a map of the route on our website, the race Facebook page and it has been sent to all runners. The Course is just over 5.5 miles due to planned important dune restoration work being carried out and protection of nesting birds by the Holkham National Nature Reserve.
The race is entirely on sand (a mixture of sandy paths and beach)
There is a shallow water crossing at around 4 miles – we will find the best place to cross on the day and this will be clearly marked and have two marshals
The race has a UKA race licence (issued by the Trail Running Association) – permit number 5699
The race will comply with UKA Rules for Trail Races
Runners must not run with a dog or a pushchair (or similar)
We ask runners not to wear headphones so they can hear marshal instructions.
Prizes
All finishers will receive a memento once they cross the finish line
There are two prizes (based on the position crossing the finish line)
1st overall male
1st overall female
The referee’s decision will be final
The prizes will be awarded at 11.15 a.m near the finish line (this will be moved to earlier in the event if we have poor weather).
Refreshments
There will be water available at the end of the race – we are asking runners to bring their own bottle of water (which can be left at the water table at the start/finish area) to reduce the number of single use plastic bottles we use.
For post race refreshments, The Lookout café at the top of Lady Anne’s Drive has a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks to purchase
The Courtyard Cafe in Holkham Park will also be open from 10 a.m.
There are also plenty of places to eat in nearby Wells-next-the-Sea.
First Aid
There will be a first aid provider at the event in case of any injury
Please complete the medical and emergency contact information on the back of your race number
If you feel unwell during the race, please speak to a marshal.
If you see another runner who is injured, please inform the next marshal
Clothing
As the race is in early January, we recommend that runners (and spectators) keep updated with the weather forecast and dress appropriately. It’s not always sunny on the beach!
Either trail shoes or road running shoes will be appropriate.
Photography
When you signed up to the race you agreed that your photo may be taken of you
We will have a photographer on the course and at the prize giving
Total Race Timing will be taking photos at the finish line using an automated camera
The photos will be published on-line (Facebook and Website)
We will comply with the club’s photography policy for storage and use of photos
You can request we delete photos of you – please email us or message via facebook for this
