Alex Moore Relay

Sunday 9th June saw four teams of RntS take on the Alex Moore relay in Skeyton – some for the first time, others were returning for more!

This is an extremely friendly event starting and finishing in The Goat pub garden. Chris and Ceri provided the teams with a club gazebo as last year was so sunny and hot. This year the weather was more favourable with some sunshine and a pleasant breeze.

Each team covers a total distance of 13.1 miles during the race – runner A runs one 2.2 mile loop, comes in and tags runner B who does two loops, tags runner C who also does 2 loops and comes and collects runners A & B and the team complete the third and final loop together.

The afternoon was finished off with a pint and G&T for some and a fabulous picnic provided by Ceri, Angie, Lucy and Nell.

Thank you to Lucy, Nell and Kevin for their wonderful cheering and support.

This event will remain firmly in the events calendar. Get a team of three together and give it a go!

Marham Flyers Summer Special 10K

After watching my fellow RntS heading off on the Duathlon from the other side of the perimeter fence, the next 30 minutes of warming up with a man holding a gun near you was interesting. The first part of the race I was getting into my stride and I have never seen such a welcoming water station or people in hiviz before at the 5K mark!

The distance around the airfield was bang on 10K.

A very enjoyable and well organised race. I will be back next year.

Lotus Test Track 10k

The first 10k event held at the Lotus test track was great fun if a little low key. Harling Athletics club ran an organised and well marshaled race.

The weather was perfect for 4 laps of a lovely flat course. I was the only member of RntS in attendance with Mat as my cheerleader in the pit lane. I was pleased with my performance, as I wasn’t firing on all cylinders after a week of the lurgy and no training.

The only negative were the barriers preventing Mat from having the kind of nosey around the Lotus site he was hoping for!

Coltishall Jaguars Mike Groves 10k

First, the good news. After the long queues to register and the late start at the Mad March Hare 10k, registration for the Coltishall Jaguars Mike Groves 10k was perfect. Just like going to the doctor, you told them your month and date of birth and you were given the next number in sequence. No queues, no delays.

But the bad news? There’s not a lot the Jaguars can do about the weather, but, after the high winds of the Mad March Hare, today’s weather was dominated by the heat and the humidity. Nevertheless, even at 28°C and 65% humidity, a dozen RntS and a few friends and supporters gathered together to huddle in the shade to watch Kieran and Ellie Duncan win their medals  in the junior race. Nice to see them putting into practice what they’ve been learning at the RntS junior school club!

Anyone who has run at RAF Coltishall knows that it is exposed to the elements, whether it be the wind, the rain, or, in today’s case, the sun. And it was tough, with several RntS noting on Strava that it was the toughest 10k they had ever run. The additional water stations and the sponge station added on the day were more than welcome. Nevertheless, all the RntS made it round safely, although several runners encountered difficulties and needed the ambulance and even the air ambulance. We hope they are all recovering well.

Thanks, as well, to our supporters on the day – Lucy, Paul, Brett, and even Paula taking time off from her wedding anniversary celebrations to cheers us home!

Next Coltishall run is a 5k in August and then another 10k in September – a gentle drizzle would be nice!

Holt 10k

What started as an overcast morning lead to muggy and humid running conditions for my 1st time running the Holt 10k, well organised and marshaled by the NNBR.

Starting off from Gresham’s school with the knowledge that I would be running back on some parts of the course made me aware to take note of the downhills which would ultimately become uphill on the return.

The road gave way to track, not dissimilar to the first long stretch of Holkham parkrun and I knew not to lose my momentum. The heat in the air became more apparent along the track as it was dusty, and a brief respite was a breeze at each gateway.

Then back onto the road with the gorse as lovely scenery, and a very welcome water station before tackling a gradual but lengthy uphill. It was good to support and be supported by fellow RntS running and it kept morale up!

Finally on to the main road again, and, although more uphill, a very welcome head wind!

The 800m sign was also a welcoming sight and I still had a little bit left for a sprint finish.

Well done everyone and thanks to all those who came to support & cheer. ?

Thetford Trails Summer Series – Race 1

A great write-up by Hayley W:

It was a warm evening in the shade of the beautiful Thetford forest. The first of the summer series trail 10k’s also happened to be Amberly’s first official 10k. She coped well and literally left me for dust after 1k. The course was a lot tougher than we both imagined, dusty sandy hills were a bit of a challenge. The sound of the cuckoo was a pleasant distraction on an otherwise quiet supporter free course. Amberly is now eager for more with sub 50 in her sights.

RntS 5K Track Challenge at Lynnsport

What a fantastic evening and turnout for the 5K track challenge (maybe the first of many?). Over 40 club members attended with 38 running.

Conditions were spot-on, very little wind, not too hot (although it did warm up when the sun came through) and dry. Two groups of runners set off at different times for what, to many of us, seemed a quite intimidating event!

In the end, I found that the time just vanished and it was over before you knew it.

Amazingly, in an open space, GPS seemed a little bit erratic with some GPS trackings finishing at before 5K, with others way past it. But, thanks to working a buddy system where another runner counted your laps, we all know that we did 5K (AKA 12.5 laps!).

Very enjoyable in the end and a good show from everyone with a number of fastest 5Ks in the bag!
