On a lovely Spring morning 2 events took place

Blicking Half Marathon - 6 club members took part this morning, resulting in 3 pb's - well done everyone.

This weeks write up is by Kirsty Lack:-

With what looked like promising weather for a run, I set off earlier than usual for today's race which started at 8:30am. A two lap course starting and finishing in front of Blickling Hall was well supported by the marshalls all the way round and of course the RntS cheerleading crew - especially Oliver (thank you all!). Heading away from the hall we were on track for some beautiful scenery on a mixture of road and compacted trails with a few hills thrown in for good measure. Was nice to be at a steady pace to be able to appreciate the views and chat with other runners, especially other club members. Blickling hall made a beautiful backdrop to the all-important finish line with a sprint finish to be rewarded with a lovely medal and refreshments. Would definitely recommend 😊

Ryston Runners XC Series - Race Number 6 - well done Mat & Hayley.

Hayley received a memento of the Series at today's event.

It was perfect XC race conditions today and a lot drier underfoot than previous races. I’ve managed 5 out of 6 races this year with some tricky weather conditions at times. It’s a great series, Ryston hold a very well organised but relaxed race with an incredible cake stall! They’re a welcoming club and a series momento is a lovely touch for those of us who turn up each month but are not in the medal placings. The medal/ trophy presentation at the bowls club afterwards today was well supported and a lovely way to end the XC series.

Ceri was very supportive marshalling as we started the run up the killer hill!

Mad March Hare 10km – Coltishall

Very well done to the 7 runners and 2 volunteers who braved the wind at The Mad March Hare this morning.  Andy has kindly provided this weeks race report and photo.

A lovely morning for a 10km in the sun although a bracing headwind made for a bit of extra effort around the 2nd and 7th kilometres. The course itself was lovely and flat but unless you were a fan of concrete, solar panels and sheep there wasn't too much in the way of scenery.
 
With Kevin and Evette marshalling at the 5km point the main topic of conversation before the race began was making sure we all had good form as we ran past them. The encouraging shouts though were very much appreciated and certainly made sure my arms were pumping (thanks to you both). 
 
Pacers provided by Coltishall Jaguars was a nice touch and certainly helped a couple of us secure a PB.
 
The next race in the series the Mike Groves 10km takes place on the 22nd of May for anyone interested and definitely worth a shot for anyone gunning for a PB.

Mad March Hare 10K – March 13th 2022

It was supposed to be a 70-minute drive to the Mad March Hare 10K race at Scottow Enterprise Park located on the former RAF Coltishall airbase. However, a diversion on the main A149 at Hillington due to total road resurfacing added 10 minutes to the journey. Not that we minded as we travelled through rural Norfolk with blossom starting to show and daffodils out on this spring like morning. We arrived to see the Junior race start at 9:15 am, the 10K started at 10:00, so plenty of time to pick up my number and warm up. We didn’t see any hares, mad or otherwise.

This was the first in a series of three 10K races organised by the Coltishall Jaguars. The course two laps in anti-clockwise direction of the mainly old airbase perimeter track.  On the inside of the course solar panels and concrete jet blast deflectors to the right open fields across which the wind was howling. For the first 3K the wind was relentless, I felt for every step forward the wind was blowing me back two. As we turned the wind dropped and I could catch my breath only to be repeated on the next lap.

The race is well organised, with plenty of parking, race start and finish near to the car park. Plenty of marshals and support not that they actually need many marshals on this simple loop course. Javabean café serving good coffee, bacon baps and cake at reasonable prices.

All finishers receive a medal, this year’s medals are themed around three of the Polish squadrons based at RAF Coltishall in WW2 and feature the insignia and one of the aircraft operated by the squadron. Finished in a chip time of 48:42 overall place 76 from a field of 239. Good to meet other Runners-Next-The-Sea, now my first claim club.

 First in my 70+ age group, a very nice award, flat packed which I assembled while drinking a cool beer.

Cambridge Half Marathon

6 Runners travelled to Cambridge on Sunday to run the 11th Cambridge Half Marathon.

Bob has kindly written the race report

"This was my first big race with thousands of runners. It was well organised with a beautiful course, and arriving at the venue with 45 minutes to spare was fine for dropping off my bag, using the loo, and getting into the pen. What with driving from Wells on the day there wasn’t time to worry about the race itself. One thing did phase me: people I didn’t know shouting out my name. I thought I must be surrounded by well-known Bobs (Hope, Mortimer, Monkhouse)."

British Championships at Lee Valley, London.

Very well done to Chris who qualified for the 60 metre final with a pb of 09:50.  Then got another pb of 09:37 to finish 4th in the final - 0.2 seconds off a medal.

Hunny Bell Cross Country

Wow, what a turnout of club members at the Hunny Bell Cross Country run today.  Well done to everyone who ran and to all those who supported.

It was a great event to take part in with amazing support from everyone who came to watch and from all the marshalls around the course.

We were lucky enough to have a nice sunny day, although the stiff breeze made running across the fields somewhat of a challenge.  The course was undulating  and tricky underfoot at times, but such a lovely place to run and delicious cake at the village hall once finished.

Well done to Paul who looked after and stayed with Cam who unfortunately had to pull out of the race due to feeling poorly, we wish you well Cam.

Thetford Trails 10k Series – Race 2

The first official event of the year with RntS members taking part (that I’m aware of).

Well done to the 6 RntS who took part, and, in the process got the second part of the 3 medals which all join together. One more to go!

RAF Marham NYE 10k

Last race of the year!

From an initial RntS starting group of almost 10 runners, due to sickness and injury, the field was reduced to a lonely two on the day!

We did have some family and RntS member support though (thanks for the sausage rolls Shirley, and the cheering Lucy H adn Cam’s family)

Another nice event by Marham Flyers with possibly the best 10k goodie bag ever (2 bars of chocolate, energy bar, pin badge, medal, a few paper games, air freshener, bottle of beer (and also coke, water and fruit juice if wanted) and a packet of crisps!

Also, they made around £3000 for the RAF Benevolent Fund from the event. A very worthwhile cause. The next 10k and duathlon will be on the 9th June.

Merry RntSmas and Hair of the Dog 2018

Lovely turnout on Christmas Day with 28 runners going for a lovely social 5k run. You’d think we’d all have something better to do!

Thanks to Alison B and family for the Sloe Gin at the end.

Also, The Queens Head Foulsham Hair of the Dog Fun Run took part on boxing day. Home made sausage rolls and mince pies to celebrate at the end! Nice!
